The Beauty of Shadow Work: Remembering the Parts We Turned Away From

Two weeks ago, I stepped into a space devoted to shadow work, and it was one of the most liberating, enlivening, grounding and exciting experiences I’ve had in a long time.

I’ve felt so much lighter ever since. There’s more confidence in my own being; a deeper self trust that comes from knowing I can hold and love all versions of me. There’s greater presence in everyday life and I’ve felt vibrantly alive and able to enjoy the juicy flow of life, guilt-free.

Shadow work is about wholeness

It’s about meeting and welcoming the parts of ourselves we learned to hide. The emotions we were told were “too much,” the instincts we suppressed in order to be loved, the versions of us we modified to survive.

What I loved most about the experience was the playfulness, the freedom to explore with curiosity and openess free from any judgment. It was a gift to play with the energies, expressions, and feelings that wanted to be met and discover that what I thought was “bad”, “too much”, “unwelcome” was actually raw, potent aliveness.

I’ve made friends with parts I was told weren’t welcome or were judged by others to be wrong and rediscovered the creativity the passion and the delicious pleasure they truly hold.

The moment we allow the truth of what we really feel in our being, a deeper intelligence awakens that’s beautiful, erotic, creative and so incredibly empowering.

This work is tender, profound, and deeply human, and for me, it has opened a new layer of my Living Temple, one where nothing is rejected, and everything belongs.
